Voiceworks School Director

LESLEY HENRY

Lesley Henry has worked professionally vocal coaching for over twenty years gaining a wealth of experience as a performer, vocal coach and artistic director. A trained Soprano and a teaching fellow of the London College of Music.
Her passion for vocal coaching has dominated her career and she continues to dedicate herself to widening her knowledge of the pedagogy of voice so that her teaching and directing is delivered to the highest standard. The results achieved by her students are respected in teaching colleges across the province with students awarded 100% including diploma level, some of the highest in the UK. 

Lesley worked as a soloist throughout Ireland with an extensive repertoire and versatile voice this has allowed her a varied platform and credits performing roles in both music theatre and classical spanning twenty years. Lesley is equally at home as an artistic and creative director and produces her own showcases every year in professional theatres giving young performers valuable experiences to develop their artistry, technique and musicality. Lesley has delivered master classes to theatre groups, universities and schools across N.Ireland. 

Lesley has her own Performing Art Schools in Ballymena called ‘Voiceworks’. This dream started with producing full scale musicals in the summer holidays and is now celebrating its sixth year which has seen her dream of providing local children with the highest standard of teaching and performing experience come to fruition. The school runs on a Saturday morning and teaches theatre arts and has had success in local festivals and dance competitions across N.Ireland as it continues to expand and provide fulfilling opportunities for the students dedicated to providing a challenging and diverse learning program within a supportive and highly encouraging environment.

School Manager

CLAIRE MCKANE

Claire is a primary school teacher with a Masters in Education from Stranmillis University College. She has a real passion for working with children and young people, not only through her profession but also in spare time as Captain of the Girls’ Brigade in her local church. She has been involved with Voiceworks since 2015 and absolutely loves seeing children and young people getting the opportunity to learn, grow and perform not only in the summer musicals but in our weekly classes. 
As Business Manager for the Voiceworks Ballymena school on Saturday mornings, Claire believes it is important that parents’ feel comfortable leaving their children off and are kept informed with effective communication. She loves nothing more than a colour coded spreadsheet and is the face behind the emails! 
She has been involved each year in the summer musicals and has taken on the role as backstage manager. She has also achieved Grade 8 Distinction in Musical Theatre under the direction and teaching of Lesley Henry. Her musical and artistic background has made her adaptable within her role and she enjoys being able to support the running of all areas within productions. 
Claire often describes the Voiceworks team as ‘Family’, as we promote team and encourage a positive environment where children can be built up in their confidence. She loves getting to work alongside such a talented and enthusiastic pupils and staff.

Singing Tutor

WILSON SHIELDS

Wilson is currently musical director for Belvoir Players Studio Theatre , New Lyric Operatic Company and Ulster Operatic Company. Wilson has conducted the N Ireland premieres of Mack and Mabel, Camelot , Witches of Eastwick , Copacabana , Chess, West Side Story (amateur premiere), Legally Blonde, Sweeney Todd ( amateur premiere), Avenue Q and White Christmas. He has appeared at both Waterford International Light Opera Festival and the Gilbert and Sullivan International Festival in Buxton. He has been musical director of the Grand Opera House Belfast Summer youth project since its inception.


Wilson was honoured in Her Majesty the Queens birthday honours list last year with a British Empire Medal for services to musical theatre in N Ireland and is delighted to be back working with Voiceworks.

Assistant Singing Tutor

ELLA LINTON

Ella is 18 years old and is the singing assistant for the Saturday Performing Arts School. She has been involved with Voiceworks for many years having taken part in their Senior summer productions, most recently being ‘Footloose’ where she played ‘Wendy-Jo’.

In June Ella achieved her musical theatre diploma DipLCM and has now taken up classical singing. She also enjoys playing piano and is currently working towards her diploma. Ella’s previous theatre experience includes performing in musicals such as “Cats”, “Singing in the Rain”, “The Sound of Music” “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”, and “My Fair Lady”. She has been fortunate enough to play some amazing roles such as Alice in “Alice in Wonderland”, Rosalia in “West Side Story” and Beverley from “Come from Away” in Voiceworks’ ‘Curtain Up’ project last summer.

Although Ella is currently studying French and Spanish at Queens University, she hopes to continue her love for music alongside her studies. She loves that Voiceworks allows her to share her passion with the young people, and seeing their enthusiasm to grow and learn makes it so rewarding. She is absolutely delighted to join the team at Voiceworks and is very excited about the year ahead!

Drama Tutor | Assistant Producer

JORDAN MCKANE

Jordan is no stranger to the Voiceworks family having been involved in our Showtime concerts, teaching in the Ballymena Performing Arts School and co-producing and directing our summer musicals. Jordan studied at Stranmillis University College and during this time he was involved in the annual pantomime; both on stage and as part of the production team. In Jordan's second year at university, he had the opportunity to be a part of the ‘panto’ committee and served as the director and writer for the production of 'Cinderella'. During this time Jordan found his passion for script writing and working with actors on their stagecraft. Since then, Jordan has gone on to direct and produce a number of other productions including; Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Grinch, The Gruffalo and Peter Pan, Tangled, Joseph and his Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Beauty & the Beast, My Fair Lady, Hairspray Jr, Mary Poppins Jr and West Side Story. 
As well as the dramatic arts, Jordan is a keen musician. Jordan is trained in classical piano with Trinity College London and in Composition and Musical Literacy with London College of Music. In 2012, he made it to the Northern Ireland finals for the UK's Young Musician of the year and was also invited to Northern Ireland's Steinway Piano Gala to play with other talented young musicians from all over the country. He is the music coordinator at Dundonald Primary School, where he is a Primary Six Teacher. Jordan is also trained in Clarinet and Saxophone and has played in various orchestras throughout his musical career.

Assistant Drama Tutor

CHARLIE MCCREADY

Charlie is excited to be returning to Voiceworks from spending a year in Japan. After getting involved with Voiceworks’ ‘OLIVER!’ in 2016, Charlie found his passion for theatre. He then continued to perform in multiple productions with Voiceworks including ‘Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dream coat’, ‘My Fair Lady’, ‘West Side Story’, ‘Curtain Up’, and ‘Footloose’; as well as joining the production team for the junior shows and more recently ‘Grease’.

 

Outside of Voiceworks, Charlie has recently graduated from Queens University Belfast with a second-class degree in Drama and has been performing in multiple shows across Belfast, including Ulster Operatic Company’s ‘West Side Story’ as Big Deal in the Grand Opera House.

 

Charlie can’t wait to inspire Northern Ireland’s future theatre practitioners and unlock their boundless imaginations.

Dance Tutor | Choreographer

JORDAN ROSBOROUGH

This is Jordan’s second year working at Voiceworks and is loving the school so much already. She has been appointed as Choreographer for several musical companies, including Lisnagarvey Operatic and Dramatic Society, Banbridge Musical Society, Dundalk Musical Society and Ulster Operatic Company. Most recently, she choreographed for Lisnagarvey’s moved cabaret-style concert ‘Come to the Cabaret’ in April 2022.
At the 2019 AIMS Awards Ceremony, Jordan performed with the Northern Region, featuring in a contemporary duet to ‘Shallow’ by Naoimh & Ann-Marie Morgan.
Featured roles include Blind Mouse in ‘Shrek’ (Grand Opera House, 2022), Ghost of Christmas yet to come in ‘A Christmas Carol’ (Grand Opera House, 2021), Patty Simcox in ‘Grease the Musical’ (Grand Opera House, 2018), Madame Thernadier in ‘Les Miserables’ (The Waterfront Belfast, 2017), and Angie in the NI premier of ‘Our House’, (Grand Opera House, 2016).
She has been appointed Dance Captain for several productions including St Agnes Choral Society’s ‘Shrek’, 2022, Bosco Drama Group’s production of ‘Legally Blonde’, 2019 (also playing the role of Margot) and ‘West Side Story’ at the Grand Opera House, 2018 (also playing the role of Velma).

Assistant Dance Tutor

CARA MCMAHON

Hi I’m Cara I’m 20 years old and I’m super excited to start working with Voiceworks Ni. I’m currently studying a BEd in primary education with Physical education at St Mary’s teaching college Belfast. I just received my diploma in Musical Theatre with LCM this past June. I also teach performing arts at another school in Finaghy called Pop House Arts where I prepare children for their musical theatre exams and also lead drama classes. I’m a current member of  Lisnagarvey operatic and dramatic society and have also worked with other companies such as JH Academy, Fusion theatre and Grand opera house summer youth project in some phenomenal shows such as ‘Sister Act’, ‘Oliver’, Les Miserables’ and I’m currently playing the roles of Narrator and Potiphar’s wife in ‘Joseph and his amazing technicolour dream coat’ with Lisnagarvey youth. 
I can’t wait to share my passion for theatre and performing with the children and develop their skills and love for the craft.
